TOURISM

Saintes Maries de la Mer

This village is steeped in legend. In the early days of Christianity, its shores are said to have witnessed the disembarkation of Marie Jacobé, Marie Salomé and their servant Sara, fleeing persecution in Palestine aboard a rudderless boat. Even today, the village still impresses with its majestic, protective church, offering visitors an emotional discovery in an ever-changing light.

In the shadow of its Romanesque bell tower, you can enjoy the gentle cobbled streets, following in the footsteps of pilgrims past and present. From the roof of the church, your gaze stretches towards the horizon, carried by the wind and the call of wide open spaces. Further afield, in the pastures, riders and manadiers watch over the bulls destined for a glorious future, embodying the living, authentic soul of this unique land.
