Hôtel des Granges > Tourism > Arles
Bathed by the Rhône, swept by the mistral and golden by the sun, Arles charms with the splendour of its thousand-year-old architecture and its irresistible Provencal spirit. From the belfry of the Hôtel de Ville to the elegant 17th-century residences, via the Saint-Trophime cloister, a jewel of Romanesque art, each stone tells a story, reminiscent of Rome with its tiled roofs, soft colours and a certain dolce vita. Here, you can lose yourself in the winding streets, stroll along the squares lined with majestic facades, linger on the terraces of the bistros and restaurants, especially when, from April to September, bullfights and ferias bring the city to life, mixing clamour and excitement.
Arles may be a crossroads of history, but it also vibrates to the rhythm of bullfighting and photography, which breathe dynamism and modernity into the city. Its cultural vibrancy is expressed through its museums, the Actes Sud publishing house, the National School of Photography and a host of festivals. Fashion also has its place here, led by Christian Lacroix, who has reinterpreted the soul of Arles through a palette of colours inspired by its roots.
A historic, artistic and highly dynamic city, Arles is full of treasures, not to mention the many events and exhibitions that take place throughout the year.
